For Sanda, in the Blue / Red colourway: BCCMA's Light Sanda rules list body armour as compulsory (BCCMA Light Sanda rules 2024, Rule 11.1), and IWUF's Sanda chest protectors are red or blue (IWUF Sanda rules 2024, Article 7.3). Blitz describes a reversible protector covering the chest, upper abdomen and ribs. In Blue / Red it is red on one side and blue on the other, and Blitz also sells it in White / Black. Blitz does not mention Sanda, so its Sanda suitability is our judgement from that coverage and the Blue / Red colourway. It is not presented as BCCMA- or IWUF-approved, so check the event's rules before a bout.
Our verdict
A reversible body protector from Blitz covering the chest, upper abdomen and ribs, with adjustable back straps and UKCA and CE marking. In its Blue / Red colourway it is red on one side and blue on the other, so one protector serves either corner colour in club sparring. It is not from a WKF-listed brand.
Blitz designs the Intercept for sparring and competition. It is a lightweight reversible protector covering the chest, upper abdomen and ribs. In its Blue / Red colourway it is red on one side and blue on the other, and it is also sold in a White / Black colourway. It has adjustable nylon and elastic back straps, a hook-and-loop fastening and UKCA and CE marking. The padded exterior is "Nama Hide" leather, and Blitz does not say whether that is genuine or synthetic.
It is sized by height for juniors and adults: Small 134-152cm, Medium 152-170cm and Large 170-188cm, with guard lengths of 26cm, 28.5cm and 32cm. Blitz does not say whether it is worn over or under the gi, or describe the padding beyond the padded exterior.
Blitz is not on WKF's approved list for body protectors. Under WKF rules, body protectors in kumite (competition sparring) must be WKF Approved (WKF Kumite Competition Rules 2026, Art. 2.2.7(c) and 2.2.10), so Blitz's competition wording does not extend to WKF events.
Club karateka who want one body protector for both corner colours in sparring (the Blue / Red colourway), sized by height.
You compete under WKF rules: see the adidas Karate Chest Guard. You're on a budget.
Pros
- Reversible: red on one side and blue on the other in the Blue / Red colourway
- Covers the chest, upper abdomen and ribs, with adjustable back straps, per Blitz
- UKCA and CE marked, with height bands and guard lengths published
Cons
- Blitz is not on WKF's approved list for body protectors
- The highest price in this category
- Blitz does not describe the padding or say how it is worn
Why we rated it this way
Protection (3): the coverage (chest, upper abdomen and ribs) and UKCA and CE marking are stated by Blitz, but the padding is described only as a padded exterior - rated on the published description, never on an injury-prevention claim.
Comfort (3): adjustable nylon and elastic back straps are stated, and height bands with guard lengths are published.
Durability (3): "Nama Hide" is Blitz's material name, not confirmed as leather; no independent durability evidence.
Value (3): the highest price here, offset by reversibility - in the Blue / Red colourway, one protector for either corner colour.
