Our verdict

An entry-level adidas wrestling shoe with a strap over the laces and a full-length rubber sole. It is the lowest-priced shoe in this category, and the only one whose maker states how the sole is built.

adidas describes the HVC PLUS as a wrestling shoe for anyone "new to wrestling or a seasoned competitor". The maker lists a breathable air-mesh upper, synthetic overlays, internal sling reinforcement and a full-length rubber outsole. A strap runs over the laces, and adidas says it "provides added ankle security".

UWW's Uniform Regulations (January 2026 version) require laces to be covered by adhesive tape and/or elastic fabric so they cannot come undone. The HVC PLUS has a strap over the laces, but that alone doesn't show the shoe meets this rule. Officials check kit at weigh-in, so check your event's rules.

adidas advises "True to size. We recommend ordering your usual size." The maker does not state the cut height or whether the sole is free of metal (which UWW also requires), so neither is confirmed. adidas sells it in GBP through its own UK store, and adidas (UK) Limited also sells it through the Decathlon UK marketplace.

Best suited to

Beginners buying their first wrestling shoes directly from adidas in the UK, who want a built-in strap over the laces and the maker's own sizing advice.

Consider skipping if

You are set on a split sole (one made in separate heel and forefoot pieces): adidas states this one is full-length. You want a shoe whose maker states the cut height.

Cons

  • No independent durability evidence

Why we rated it this way

Rated on Construction / Materials, Fit & Movement, Durability and Value (the footwear criteria) - there is no Protection score for wrestling shoes.

Construction / Materials (3): adidas states the upper, overlays, internal sling and full-length rubber outsole, but there is no independent evidence to rate it higher.

Fit & Movement (3): adidas's true-to-size advice and the strap over the laces are confirmed, but the cut height is not.

Durability (3): we found no independent durability evidence.

Value (4): the lowest price in this category, for a shoe with a stated sole construction, a built-in strap over the laces and the maker's fit advice. adidas sells it directly in the UK. We rate it on that basis, not on any performance claim.

Sources

  • Manufacturer — adidas's own UK product page, loaded in a browser (automated fetches get HTTP 403) - air-mesh upper with synthetic overlays, internal sling reinforcement, strap over the laces that "provides added ankle security", full-length rubber outsole, "new to wrestling or a seasoned competitor", "True to size" advice, UK 3 to 15 listed, and the GBP purchase route.
  • Other source — Decathlon UK marketplace listing of the same model, sold and shipped by adidas (UK) Limited - corroborating evidence only; adidas's own UK store is the purchase route.
  • Technical documentation — UWW Uniform Regulations, version January 2026 (printed; the file name says jan2025, and UWW announced it to federations on 21 January 2026). §4 shoes: no rough seams or hard eyelets, non-hazardous lace tips, laces covered by adhesive tape and/or elastic fabric so they cannot come undone, and flexible soles with no roughness and an absence of metal. No sentence makes shoes compulsory.
