Our verdict
A mid-range ASICS shoe that ASICS says is "designed for intermediate wrestling competitors", with stitch-down overlays, wrapped sides and a circular grip pattern. It is the only shoe here that its maker aims at a single experience level.
ASICS UK says the SNAPDOWN 4 is "designed for intermediate wrestling competitors". It describes stitch-down overlays on mesh underlays, a wrapped design on the outer and inner sides, and an EVA sockliner. The outsole, ASICS says, has a pattern of circular shapes for grip when the foot is planted.
ASICS's UK page does not state the sole construction, any built-in lace cover or the cut height, so we record these as not confirmed. UWW's Uniform Regulations (January 2026 version) require laces to be covered by adhesive tape and/or elastic fabric so they cannot come undone. With no built-in cover stated, plan to tape or cover the laces for competition, and check your event's rules.
This shoe sits close to the adidas Combat Speed 4 on price. On the evidence, what separates them is ASICS's stated experience level.
Wrestlers past their first months who compete, or plan to, and want a shoe ASICS says is designed for intermediate competitors.
You are a complete beginner on a tight budget (see the adidas HVC PLUS or the ASICS MATFLEX 8). You want a built-in lace cover (see the ASICS SPLIT ELITE or the Nike Inflict 4).
Pros
- The only shoe in this category its maker designs for one experience level: intermediate competitors
- Stitch-down overlays, wrapped sides and a described grip pattern, per ASICS
- Sold directly by ASICS's UK store
Cons
- Sole construction and cut height are not stated
- No built-in lace cover stated, so the laces need taping or covering for competition
- No sizing advice from ASICS that we could confirm
Why we rated it this way
Rated on Construction / Materials, Fit & Movement, Durability and Value (the footwear criteria) - there is no Protection score for wrestling shoes.
Construction / Materials (3): a detailed construction description from ASICS - stitch-down overlays, mesh underlays, wrapped sides and an EVA sockliner - but no independent evidence, and the sole construction is not stated.
Fit & Movement (3): the wrapped design and grip pattern are stated, but there is no sizing advice or sole-flex detail.
Durability (3): no independent durability evidence.
Value (3): a mid-range price whose main distinction is the maker's stated level.
Sources
- Manufacturer — ASICS's own UK product page, loaded in a browser (automated fetches get HTTP 403) - "designed for intermediate wrestling competitors", stitch-down overlays with mesh underlays, wrapped lateral and medial sides, circular outsole pattern for grip, EVA sockliner, UK 5 to 15 listed, and the GBP purchase route.
- Technical documentation — UWW Uniform Regulations, version January 2026 (printed; the file name says jan2025, and UWW announced it to federations on 21 January 2026). §4 shoes: no rough seams or hard eyelets, non-hazardous lace tips, laces covered by adhesive tape and/or elastic fabric so they cannot come undone, and flexible soles with no roughness and an absence of metal. No sentence makes shoes compulsory.
