Suitable for

  • Boxing
  • MMA

Rival describes this thin, slightly stretchy wrap as taking up less space in the glove, which suits a small MMA glove. It is for training only, because some competition rules prohibit elastic wraps.

  • Kickboxing

For kickboxing training. Rival says this Mexican-style wrap has a slight stretch and is thinner than a traditional wrap, so it takes up less space inside the glove. The 120, 150 and 180in lengths are within WAKO's 5m maximum for hand wraps, but the 210in (about 5.33m) exceeds it. WAKO says wraps can be elastic, but describes competition wraps as cotton strips fixed with cotton-based tape (WAKO Rules 2022, Art. 2.3.1.5). This is a nylon-cotton wrap with a hook-and-loop closure, so check that your event accepts it.

Research-based editorial assessment

Our verdict

A Mexican-style wrap from Rival in a semi-elastic nylon and cotton blend. It is thinner and more contoured than a traditional wrap, so it takes up less room inside the glove.

Rival's US and UK product pages both describe a 50/50 nylon and cotton blend with "a slight stretch", so the wrap contours to the hand. It comes in four lengths, from 120in to 210in.

Rival says it is thinner than a traditional wrap and takes up less space inside a glove. That is a trade-off rather than an upgrade.

Best suited to

Boxers who want a thinner, more contoured wrap that leaves more room inside the glove, for sparring, bag work and general training.

Consider skipping if

You want maximum bulk and wrist stiffness from the wrap itself: a thinner wrap is less bulky than a thick traditional one.

Pros

  • A 50/50 nylon and cotton blend with a slight stretch that contours to the hand, per Rival
  • Four lengths to choose from: 120in, 150in, 180in and 210in

Cons

  • Thinner than a traditional wrap, which suits some boxers but gives less bulk to anyone who wants it

Why we rated it this way

Protection (3): the thinner profile is a confirmed, stated trade-off against a thicker traditional wrap, not a protection upgrade. So it is rated in line with a standard wrap rather than higher.

Comfort (4): The slight stretch Rival describes lets the wrap contour to the hand, a fit and comfort feature beyond the normal standard for a hand wrap.

Materials & Construction (3): Rival states a semi-elastic, Mexican-style weave of 50% nylon and 50% cotton, a step beyond the usual hand-wrap build. Some UK retailers list the fabric as 100% polyester instead.

Value (3): A budget price for a semi-elastic Mexican-style wrap in four lengths, which is what wraps at this price normally offer.
