Research-based editorial assessment

Our verdict

A 100% cotton, semi-double-weave training judogi (judo uniform) that Fighting Films designs for everyday use and says is not IJF approved. It comes in a standard and a wide fit, with a lower stated shrinkage than the Red Label, but no stated fabric weight.

Fighting Films describes the Black Label 600 as "designed for everyday use" and lists it for club-level judoka (judo players). It is a semi-double weave in 100% cotton, in white, with an approximate shrinkage of 3%. Adult sizes run from 160cm to 190cm, with standard-fit (S/F) and wide-fit (W/F) options. Fighting Films states that it is not IJF approved.

Its fabric weight is not stated. The 600 in the name is a model number, and Fighting Films calls the suit "lightweight" without giving a figure, so we record the weight as not confirmed.

Fighting Films' description gives white as its colour. White is allowed in British Judo competition at every level under the Amendments (effective 6 July 2026). Whether you also need a blue judogi depends on the event's entry form.

Best suited to

Club judoka who train regularly and want a semi-double weave and a choice of standard or wide fit, and who don't need an IJF-labelled suit.

Consider skipping if

You need a judogi for IJF events: Fighting Films says this one is not IJF approved. You want a blue suit (Fighting Films' description gives white only) or a stated fabric weight.

Why we rated it this way

Rated on Construction / Materials, Fit & Movement, Durability and Value (the clothing criteria), from the maker's published specification - never on hands-on testing.

Construction / Materials (3): the weave and 100% cotton are stated, but not the fabric weight, and there is no independent evidence to rate it higher.

Fit & Movement (4): Fighting Films offers a standard and a wide fit in adult sizes and states a lower approximate shrinkage (3%) than its Red Label (6%) - rated on those published fit details, not on testing.

Durability (3): no independent durability evidence.

Value (3): a mid-range price for a training suit with a stated weave and two fits, but no stated weight and, by the maker's own statement, no IJF approval.

  • Manufacturer — Fighting Films' own UK store (GBP) - Black Label 600 Judogi: "Designed for everyday use, it's lightweight and budget-friendly. Although it's not IJF approved..."; "Material: Semi Double Weave, 100% Cotton"; "Colour: White"; children's sizes 145cm to 155cm and adult sizes 160cm to 190cm, standard fit (S/F) and wide fit (W/F); "Shrinkage: Approx 3%". No fabric weight is stated (the 600 is a model number). Listed in its "Enthusiast Kits" range ("For club level judoka"). The store also lists blue variants (160-180 SF).

  • Technical documentation — IJF Sport and Organisation Rules, "Version: 14 August 2026". Appendix C (IJF Judogi Rules): C1.1 national federations are responsible for athletes wearing approved IJF judogi at IJF official events; jacket and trousers the same brand; reversible judogi not allowed; a belt other than black must be flexible and is exempt from the IJF label; C1.1.5 the IJF label is checked with a UV lamp, the supplier's logo must be on jacket, trousers and belt, sleeves must cover the wrist bone, the skirt must cover the buttocks, and protections (knee, elbow, shin pads) may not have the slightest metallic or rigid element; C1.2 each jacket and trousers must have an unforgeable red or green optical label (belts blue, red or green); C1.9 white or blue within set colour references; C1.10 skirt at least 20cm below the belt for the -73kg group (women -48 to -70kg, men -60 to -73kg) and 25cm for the +73kg group (women -78 and +78kg, men -81 to +100kg), trousers ending no more than 5cm above the ankle bone, belt 4-5mm thick with 20-30cm from the knot; C1.11 and C1.13 female athletes must wear a short-sleeved, round-necked white T-shirt. No mention of mouthguards anywhere in the document (text searched 2026-10-22).
  • Technical documentation — British Judo Association, Amendments to the IJF Contest Rules, "Version: Effective 06/07/2026" (listed "As of 6th July 2026" on British Judo's Contest Rules page, 2026-10-22). With the IJF Contest Rules they form the rules at all BJA licensed events; unless a level is named they apply at all levels. 5.1: white and blue judogi only in competition; the athlete called first never wears blue; organisers may specify on the entry form whether blue is mandatory or optional; with a blue judogi both wear grade belts, where both wear white the first wears a white belt and the second a blue belt; the referee in charge may allow other belt colours, generally only at Level 1 or 2 events or Dan gradings; at Level 1 any colour of judogi, jacket and trousers the same solid colour. 5.2: sleeves reach the wrist joint at most and 5cm above it at least. 5.3: grade badges on the skirt below the belt, max 10x10cm. 5.4: a non-compliant judogi must be changed within 6 minutes or the contest is lost by kiken-gachi. 5.5: soft shin pads without hard stiffeners; an underfoot band allowed; no instep pad. 5.6: a T-shirt or rash guard may be worn by anyone and must be worn in female categories; plain white, round neck, sleeves up to 5cm above the wrist joint, no advertising beyond a maker's label of at most 3x15cm, and it "should be worn tucked into the judogi trousers". No mouthguard rule, and no requirement for IJF-labelled judogi, was found in the text.
