Judogi

A judogi is the jacket and trousers you train and compete in, worn with a belt. The judogi here differ mainly in their fabric, the fits on offer and what each maker says about IJF approval. The fabric varies in weight and weave, and is cotton or a cotton-polyester blend.

Check the fabric weight where the maker states it. For example, Fighting Films gives 450gsm for its Red Label club suit. The IJF's Judogi Manufacturing Regulation (version March 2026) sets 650 to 750 g/m² after washing for the fabric of IJF-approved judogi. Not every maker states a weight, and we never take one from a model number, so some weights show as Not confirmed.

IJF-approved judogi carry a red or green IJF optical label on the jacket and trousers. The IJF lists approved suppliers, not individual models. So for each judogi we record two things: whether its maker is on the IJF supplier list, and what the maker says about the model. We never give an approval of our own.

We found no requirement for IJF-labelled judogi in British Judo's Contest Rules (version 23 March 2026) or its Amendments (effective 6 July 2026). Check each event's entry form.

Judogi are sized by height, sometimes with a fit code such as S/F for standard fit. Cotton shrinks, so check each maker's sizing advice. We assess adult sizes. Belts, shin pads and mouthguards are covered in our guide to your first judogi rather than listed here.
