Our verdict
A foot guard whose maker publishes its own product page and WAKO statement. Century says its C-Gear range is WAKO approved. It lists this model for point fighting, kick light and full contact, in six sizes including Child and Youth. But Century and the UK retailer disagree on its materials.
Century's own product page lists the C-Gear Determination Kicks under "Association: WAKO" and "Division: Point Fighting, Kick Light, and Full Contact". That division list leaves out light contact, the fourth WAKO discipline that requires foot guards. Century also says "C-GEAR is now WAKO approved at every level of competition", with a footnote to see WAKO's guidelines for equipment requirements. That is Century's claim, recorded as such.
WAKO's Equipment Book (revision 6, May 2022) lists Century's "Wako C Gear Kicks 112440E". Century gives this model's SKU (product code) as 112440, the same base number under a different name. That is a correlation between product codes, not an identification of this model or colourway by WAKO.
Century describes the material as vinyl and says the guards are not washable. UK retailer Bytomic describes a PU outer and a foam core instead. The two disagree, so we give Century's description of the outer and record the padding as not confirmed. Century does not describe the closure, toe fixing or coverage (Bytomic mentions an "easy-adjust Velcro strap"). Its foot-length size chart is headed "Sparring Kicks" without saying whether it covers this model.
WAKO permits only WAKO-approved safety equipment at its international and national events from 1 January 2025 and requires foot protection to carry the WAKO label (WAKO Labels document, rev. 4; WAKO Europe, March 2026). Check the label on the pair you receive and your event's rules.
Kickboxers in point fighting, kick light or full contact who want a foot guard whose maker publishes its own WAKO statement and sizing. That includes juniors, with Child and Youth sizes listed by Century.
You want washable guards (Century says they are not). You want the closure and coverage described by the maker. You fight low kick or K1 Style. Those WAKO disciplines do not use foot guards.
Pros
- The maker's own product page, with Century's WAKO statement and the disciplines it lists
- Six sizes listed by Century, including Child and Youth
- A foot-length size chart on Century's page
Cons
- Century says the guards are not washable
- Century says vinyl and the UK retailer says PU, so we give Century's description and record the padding as not confirmed
- Closure, toe fixing and coverage are not described by Century, and its WAKO statement covers the C-Gear range rather than a WAKO list entry
- The highest price of the three foot guards
Why we rated it this way
Protection (3): Century does not describe the padding or coverage, and the UK retailer's description contradicts Century's on materials, so nothing separates it from the other guards - rated on the evidence, never on an injury-prevention claim.
Comfort (3): a published foot-length chart and six sizes help with fit, but the closure and toe fixing are described only by the retailer.
Durability (3): a vinyl outer per Century, not washable, with no independent durability evidence.
Value (3): the highest price of the three, for a foot guard with the maker's own page, WAKO statement and junior sizes.
Sources
- Manufacturer — Century's own product page (US store, USD): "C-GEAR is now WAKO approved at every level of competition" with the footnote "see WAKO guidelines for equipment requirements", "Association: WAKO", "Division: Point Fighting, Kick Light, and Full Contact", "Material: Vinyl", "Washable: No", sizes Small to Extra Large plus Child and Youth, and a foot-length size chart headed "Sparring Kicks". Checked 2026-10-21; re-read 2026-10-22 to settle the material question.
- Other source — UK retailer Bytomic's listing (Red/Black) - the purchase route. It says "Fully WAKO-certified for multiple sparring formats" (the retailer's wording) and "Easy-adjust Velcro strap", and describes a "PU foam core with wear-resistant PU outer layer", which contradicts Century's "Vinyl" and is not used for the materials. Checked 2026-10-21.
- Technical documentation — WAKO Equipment Book, rev. 6 (04.05.2022, approved by the WAKO IF Board and Technical Committee; hosted by WAKO Europe): lists Century "Wako C Gear Kicks 112440E" in black/red and black/blue (p. 91), "Disciplines: PF,LC,KL,FC"; WAKO does not identify that entry as the C-Gear Determination Kicks (only a product-SKU correlation links them). Read in a copy of rev. 6 downloaded by the owner, on 2026-10-22. WAKO's Rules Overview page still links this 04.05.2022 edition as its Equipment Book (checked 22 October 2026). Checked 21 October 2026.
- Technical documentation — Governing body rulebook: WAKO Rules (04.05.2022 v.2, last revised 25.10.2022), Art. 2.3.1.10 and the discipline chapters: foot protection is mandatory in point fighting, light contact, kick light and full contact - one piece covering the instep, both ankle bones and the heel, with an open sole, covered toes, an elastic toe strip and a self-adhesive strap above the heel. Low kick and K1 Style use none (foot wraps optional). Checked 21 October 2026.
- Technical documentation — WAKO Labels for approved equipment and clothes, rev. 4 (WAKO HQ, published by WAKO Europe January 2025): from 1 January 2025 only WAKO-approved safety equipment is permitted at all WAKO international and national events; the WAKO label is required on head guards, face masks, gloves, elbow pads, shin guards, shin-instep guards and foot protection, and not on mouthguards, breast protection, groin protection, bandages or ankle guards. Checked 21 October 2026.
- Technical documentation — WAKO Europe, 5 March 2026: from 1 January 2026, equipment at all local, national, regional, continental and world competitions must be verified, approved and WAKO-labelled; no fights in protective equipment without the WAKO label. Checked 22 October 2026.
