Our verdict

A cotton-soled, slip-on kung fu shoe that Blitz designs for indoor training. It has a thick cotton canvas upper, a padded lining and elasticated sides. Of the two shoes here, it is the more fully described, with a UK-to-EU size chart and advice for women.

Blitz describes these as a classic choice for indoor training, for kung fu, tai chi and other martial arts that focus on balance, control and fluid movement. It says they are specifically designed for indoor training. Blitz states an upper of thick cotton canvas, a sole and stitching in contrast-colour cotton, a white, fully padded inner lining and elasticated sides for slip-on wear. It says the cotton sole is chosen for grip and flexibility and for a closer connection to the ground.

Sizes run from UK 6 to UK 11 on a men's chart, which Blitz maps to EU 39-45. Blitz advises women to order one size down from their usual shoe size. Blitz's text does not name the colour of the upper, so colours are recorded as not confirmed. The grip, comfort and durability wording is the maker's own, not independently tested.

For taolu (forms) competitions, BCCMA's Traditional Taolu rules (2024) say athletes should wear appropriate kung fu or wushu shoes.

Best suited to

Students who train indoors and want a cotton-soled, slip-on shoe for classes and forms, including where a school asks for cotton soles.

Consider skipping if

You want a shoe for outdoor training: Blitz designs this one for indoor training. Your size falls outside Blitz's UK 6 to 11 range: see the KWON Kung Fu Shoes Beijing, sold in EU 36 to 47.

Why we rated it this way

Rated on the clothing criteria (Construction / Materials, Fit & Movement, Durability, Value) - uniforms and kung fu shoes get no Protection score.

Construction / Materials (4): the sole, upper and lining materials are all stated by Blitz - the only shoe in this category whose maker states the sole material.

Fit & Movement (4): a slip-on design with elasticated sides, a published UK-to-EU size chart and sizing advice for women; Blitz's flexibility wording is its own claim and is not what the rating rests on.

Durability (3): Blitz describes the canvas as durable, but that is the maker's claim, with no independent evidence.

Value (3): the higher-priced of the two shoes, for the more complete specification, sold manufacturer-direct.
