Our verdict
A traditional board-style fight short that sits just above the knee, with side splits and a published two-fabric stretch blend. It is a well-documented all-rounder for striking and grappling.
Venum describes the Light 5.0 as lightweight and flexible for striking or grappling. It has a hook-and-loop closure at the waist, side splits with reinforced stitching and a cut that sits just above the knee. Venum lists two fabrics: 95% polyester/5% elastane and 85% polyester/15% elastane. An Amazon listing quotes a different, internally inconsistent blend. Venum's own figures are used here.
Whether a hook-and-loop fly counts as exposed under a particular competition's rules is for that event's officials to decide. For that reason, it is treated here as a training short.
