Our verdict

A padded wrestling ear guard in two sizes, sold directly by Venum's UK store. Venum says it is "specifically designed for wrestling" and lists ventilation perforations and an adjustable fastening, but does not state its materials or shell construction.

Venum describes the Challenger Wrestling Ear Guard as "specifically designed for wrestling". The maker lists a multi-panel padded construction, integrated perforated zones for ventilation and hearing, and an adjustable fastening system. The guard comes in two sizes, S/M and L/XL.

Venum's UK page does not state the materials, whether there is a hard shell, the type of chin fastening or the size measurements. We record these as not confirmed. UWW's Uniform Regulations (January 2026 version) say ear protectors "must be made of flexible and elastic material without any hard buckle". Venum does not publish the construction details needed to compare this guard with that rule, so we make no statement either way. Officials check kit at weigh-in, so check your event's rules.

UWW and British Wrestling rules regulate ear protectors but do not make them compulsory. Many clubs and US school rules differ, so check with your club.

Best suited to

Wrestlers who want a padded ear guard that comes in size bands rather than one size, bought directly from Venum in the UK.

Consider skipping if

You want the construction confirmed before buying. Venum does not state the materials, shell or chin fastening, which Hayabusa does for its Wrestling Headgear. You need certainty about an event's ear-protector rules.

Why we rated it this way

Rated on design, fit and coverage from the maker's published specification - never on an injury-prevention claim. Venum's own wording about ear injuries is not relied on.

Protection (3): a multi-panel padded design is confirmed, but the materials and any shell are not, so it cannot be credited with more - nor marked down without evidence.

Comfort (3): two size bands, ventilation perforations and an adjustable fastening are stated.

Durability (3): the materials are not stated and there is no independent durability evidence.

Value (3): a lower price than the Hayabusa, balanced by a much thinner published specification.

  • Manufacturer — Venum's own UK product page (SKU VENUM-05713-001, tagged "New") - "Specifically designed for wrestling", multi-panel padded construction, perforated zones for ventilation and hearing, adjustable fastening system, sizes S/M and L/XL, and the GBP purchase route. Materials, shell, chin fastening and size measurements not stated.
  • Technical documentation — UWW Uniform Regulations, version January 2026 (printed; the file name says jan2025). §3 ear protectors: "must be made of flexible and elastic material without any hard buckle"; elastic ear flaps covered with shock-absorbing material that presents no danger to the opponent; one manufacturer identification of up to 10cm². The regulations set what ear protectors are made of; they do not make them compulsory.
  • Technical documentation — British Wrestling Association Competition Regulations (January 2020, the edition British Wrestling currently links): nothing in the text makes headgear or ear protectors compulsory; at 1-, 3- and 4-Star events competition wear is declared at the weigh-in (paragraphs 53-54).
