Our verdict

A shoe that ASICS says "transitions from practice to matches", with a built-in shoelace garage, a flexible upper and flexion grooves in the outsole. It is an upper mid-range choice for wrestlers who want their laces kept tucked away.

ASICS UK describes the SPLIT ELITE as a shoe that "transitions from practice to matches". It lists a flexible upper construction, flexion grooves in the outsole, an EVA sockliner and a mesh insole. Its shoelace garage, ASICS says, "helps laces to stay tucked and tied during matches".

Despite the name, ASICS's UK page does not say the sole is split (made in separate heel and forefoot pieces). We record the sole construction as not confirmed rather than infer it from the name. The cut height and upper materials are not stated either.

UWW's Uniform Regulations (January 2026 version) require laces to be covered by adhesive tape and/or elastic fabric so they cannot come undone. The SPLIT ELITE has a shoelace garage, but that alone doesn't show the shoe meets this rule. Officials check kit at weigh-in, so check your event's rules.

Best suited to

Training and competing in the same pair, if you want a built-in place to tuck the laces away.

Consider skipping if

You are on a budget (see the adidas HVC PLUS or the ASICS MATFLEX 8). You are buying it for a split sole, which ASICS does not confirm.

Why we rated it this way

Rated on Construction / Materials, Fit & Movement, Durability and Value (the footwear criteria) - there is no Protection score for wrestling shoes.

Construction / Materials (3): the lace garage, sockliner and insole are stated, but ASICS does not name the upper materials or confirm the sole construction.

Fit & Movement (4): the only shoe here whose maker names specific flex features - a flexible upper construction and outsole flexion grooves - plus a built-in lace garage. Rated on the maker's specification, not on testing.

Durability (3): no independent durability evidence.

Value (3): an upper mid-range price for a shoe with a built-in lace cover and practice-to-match positioning.

Sources

  • Manufacturer — ASICS's own UK product page, loaded in a browser (automated fetches get HTTP 403) - "transitions from practice to matches", flexible upper construction, shoelace garage that "helps laces to stay tucked and tied during matches", flexion grooves, EVA sockliner, mesh insole, UK 4 to 15 listed, and the GBP purchase route. No statement that the sole is split.
  • Technical documentation — UWW Uniform Regulations, version January 2026 (printed; the file name says jan2025, and UWW announced it to federations on 21 January 2026). §4 shoes: no rough seams or hard eyelets, non-hazardous lace tips, laces covered by adhesive tape and/or elastic fabric so they cannot come undone, and flexible soles with no roughness and an absence of metal. No sentence makes shoes compulsory.
