Our verdict
A Fighting Films competition judogi (judo uniform) that the maker, an IJF Official Judogi Supplier, states is IJF approved. Its 70% cotton and 30% polyester blend sits at, not above, the IJF regulation's "more than 70%" cotton figure. Fighting Films gives an approximate shrinkage of 2% and a choice of fits, but no fabric weight or weave.
Fighting Films lists the Superstar 750 among its kits for judoka (judo players) who compete, and describes it as "LIGHT WEIGHT – IJF APPROVED". Fighting Films Store Ltd is on the IJF's list of Official Judogi Suppliers, and Fighting Films states this model is IJF approved. The IJF lists suppliers, not models, so look for the red or green IJF label on the jacket and trousers.
At IJF events each jacket and pair of trousers must carry a red or green IJF optical label, and the jacket and trousers must be the same brand (IJF Sport and Organisation Rules, version 14 August 2026, Appendix C). We found no requirement for IJF-labelled judogi in British Judo's Contest Rules (version 23 March 2026) or its Amendments (effective 6 July 2026), so check each event's entry form.
The suit is 70% cotton and 30% polyester, in white or blue, with an approximate shrinkage of 2%. Fighting Films sizes it in a standard fit (S/F) or a large fit (L/F), and its store also lists wide-fit (W/F) sizes. The maker gives skirt-length guidance of 20cm or 25cm below the belt, depending on weight category. It does not state the fabric weight or weave. The 750 is a model number, so the weight is recorded as not confirmed.
Judoka competing, or preparing to compete, at events that require an IJF-labelled judogi. The maker, a UK-based IJF Official Judogi Supplier, states the suit is IJF approved and offers several fit options.
You are a beginner or club judoka who doesn't need an IJF-labelled suit: see the Fighting Films Black Label 600 or Red Label. You want a maker-stated fabric weight (Essimo states one for its IJF Gold).
Pros
- Fighting Films, an IJF Official Judogi Supplier, states it is IJF approved
- Standard and large fits, with wide-fit sizes also listed, plus the maker's skirt-length guidance
- Approximate shrinkage of 2%, the lowest figure Fighting Films gives for the judogi here
Cons
- No fabric weight or weave stated - the 750 is a model number
- A premium price
- No belt is stated to be included
Why we rated it this way
Rated on Construction / Materials, Fit & Movement, Durability and Value (the clothing criteria), from the maker's published specification - never on hands-on testing. The IJF approval is the maker's statement beside its IJF supplier listing, and is not rated as a quality.
Construction / Materials (3): the blend is stated, but not the fabric weight or weave, and there is no independent evidence. Fighting Films' stated 70% cotton sits at the IJF regulation's figure (more than 70% cotton) rather than above it; certification and the label, not the maker's stated blend, decide approval, so no conclusion is drawn either way.
Fit & Movement (4): the widest choice of fits published for any judogi here (standard, large and wide), a low stated shrinkage and the maker's skirt-length guidance - rated on those published details, not on testing.
Durability (3): no independent durability evidence.
Value (3): a premium price for a suit whose maker states IJF approval, below the Essimo IJF Gold's price but with a thinner published fabric specification.

"Master IJF Judogi Supplier": Taishan; "IJF Premium Judogi Supplier": Double D Adidas; "IJF Official Judogi Supplier" includes "Essimo BV" (Den Helder, The Netherlands; web essimo-judo.com) and "Fighting Films Store Ltd" (Unit 6 Rose Green Industrial Park, Bristol; web fightingfilms.com). The list names suppliers and IJF-approved laboratories, never judogi models.

With the IJF Contest Rules they form the rules at all BJA licensed events; unless a level is named they apply at all levels. 5.1: white and blue judogi only in competition; the athlete called first never wears blue; organisers may specify on the entry form whether blue is mandatory or optional; with a blue judogi both wear grade belts, where both wear white the first wears a white belt and the second a blue belt; the referee in charge may allow other belt colours, generally only at Level 1 or 2 events or Dan gradings; at Level 1 any colour of judogi, jacket and trousers the same solid colour. 5.2: sleeves reach the wrist joint at most and 5cm above it at least. 5.3: grade badges on the skirt below the belt, max 10x10cm. 5.4: a non-compliant judogi must be changed within 6 minutes or the contest is lost by kiken-gachi. 5.5: soft shin pads without hard stiffeners; an underfoot band allowed; no instep pad. 5.6: a T-shirt or rash guard may be worn by anyone and must be worn in female categories; plain white, round neck, sleeves up to 5cm above the wrist joint, no advertising beyond a maker's label of at most 3x15cm, and it "should be worn tucked into the judogi trousers". No mouthguard rule, and no requirement for IJF-labelled judogi, was found in the text.
- Technical documentation — British Judo Contest Rules, "BJA Version: 23/03/2026", based on the IJF SOR of 21/01/2026; British Judo's adoption of the IJF Refereeing Rules for all British Judo events, read with the Amendments. Appendix 2 (Judogi, generally Level 4): a judogi is a jacket and trousers worn with a belt; no red and white belt; skirt to cover the buttocks; belt 4-5mm thick with 20-30cm from the knot; protections checked and without metallic or rigid parts; colour "judged 'by eye' as being white or blue" at BJA events. It contains no requirement for IJF-labelled judogi or IJF supplier logos, and no mouthguard rule (text searched 2026-10-22).
