Our verdict
A competition gi from adidas with a kumite (sparring) cut, in 35% cotton and 65% polyester, with ventilated mesh inserts and an elastic and drawstring waist. It is the one gi here from a brand WKF lists for kumite karategi, though WKF names the brand, not the model.
adidas describes the K220KF Kumite Fighter as a karate gi with a kumite cut, made light so the jacket moves at the speed of the technique. It is 35% cotton and 65% polyester, with ventilated mesh inserts on the back and seat, moisture-wicking material around the waist and a satin lining. adidas also describes seams reinforced in high-stress areas and an elasticated drawstring waistband, and sizes the gi by height from 140 to 210.
adidas's own store says it is "Approved by the World Karate Federation for competition". WKF's approved list names adidas for kumite karategi but not this model, so we record the approval as adidas's claim. Check for the WKF logo, which WKF's karategi approval procedure places at the edge of the seam at the lower part of the jacket.
UK retailer Budo Online sells it under SKU K220KF as the "adidas DNA WKF Approved Karate Gi Kumite Suit". The retailer mentions "Climacool ventilation" and a "220g fabric weight" that adidas does not state, and says the belt is not included. All of these are the retailer's descriptions. adidas states no fabric weight and does not say whether the jacket has ties.
Kumite competitors who want a gi from a brand WKF lists for kumite karategi, at a mid-range price, and who will check for the WKF logo on the gi they receive.
You're a beginner buying a first training gi: see the Blitz Student. You prefer a heavier cotton gi: see the Blitz Zanshin or Diamond. You want a stated fabric weight or a belt included.
Pros
- adidas is on WKF's approved list for kumite karategi, and adidas says this model is approved
- Kumite cut with ventilated mesh inserts, a satin lining and reinforced seams, per adidas
- Elastic and drawstring waist and a published composition
Cons
- WKF's list names the brand, not this model - check for the WKF logo
- adidas states no fabric weight; the UK retailer's 220g figure is its own
Why we rated it this way
Rated on the clothing criteria (Construction / Materials, Fit & Movement, Durability, Value); a gi gets no Protection score.
Construction / Materials (4): composition, mesh inserts, satin lining and reinforced seams are all stated by adidas, though no fabric weight.
Fit & Movement (4): adidas confirms a kumite cut and an elastic and drawstring waist - the movement features a kumite gi is bought for - and sizes by height; the UK seller's size chart is an image.
Durability (3): the reinforced seams and "minimal deformation when washing" are adidas's own claims, with no independent evidence, and no fabric weight is stated.
Value (3): a mid-range price for the one gi here from a WKF-listed brand, with the model-level approval resting on adidas's claim.
Sources
- Manufacturer — adidas's own US combat-sports store (sold under the adidas Combat Sports licence; prices in USD, not a UK destination), re-read 2026-10-22: "Kumite Fighter WKF White Karate Kimono K220KF" - "a kumite cut karate gi", 35% cotton / 65% polyester, ventilated mesh inserts on the back and buttocks, moisture-wicking waist, satin lining, reinforced high-stress areas, "elasticated + drawstring" waistband, "Minimal deformation when washing", sizing by height (140-210), white; "Approved by the World Karate Federation for competition" and "Used by national teams" (adidas's claims). No fabric weight, jacket ties or belt statement.
- Other source — UK retailer Budo Online's product page and product feed (re-read 2026-10-22), the source of: the title "adidas DNA WKF Approved Karate Gi Kumite Suit", SKU K220KF-<size> (feed), "Climacool ventilation", "220g fabric weight", "Belt not included", sizes 140-200cm and a size chart published as an image. Budo Online is not on the UK dealer list WKF's adidas entry gives, so its descriptions are the retailer's.
- Technical documentation — WKF approved list (wkf.net/approved; no version printed): "ADIDAS - KUMITE KARATE-GI": adidas is listed for kumite karategi; no model or article code is printed, and the gallery file names carry no gi code. Checked 22 October 2026.
- Technical documentation — WKF procedure for karategi approval ("Homologation period closed until December 31st 2024"): the WKF logo goes "on the edge of the seam at the lower part of the jacket", and an approved brand may not put the WKF logo or the legend "WKF APPROVED" on any of its other products. Checked 22 October 2026.
- Technical documentation — WKF approved list (wkf.net/approved; no version printed): WKF's adidas brand page names Double-D as adidas's worldwide martial-arts licensee and lists adidas's dealers by country; for the United Kingdom it lists "BLITZSPORT" (London) and "CIMAC" (Solihull). Cimac, the UK purchase route for the adidas kit here, is one of them. Checked 22 October 2026.
- Technical documentation — Governing body rulebook: WKF Kumite Competition Rules (Rules Version 2026.01, valid from 1 January 2026; note of 13 April 2026), Art. 2.2.1: athletes wear a WKF Approved white karategi; jackets without ties cannot be used (g); sleeves end no longer than the bend of the wrist and no shorter than halfway down the forearm (h); trousers cover at least two-thirds of the shin and do not reach below the anklebone (j).
