Karate Gi

A karate gi (karategi) is the jacket and trousers you train in. Before you buy your first one, ask your club what to wear and whether it sells its own gi.

Gis differ in fabric weight, fabric and cut, and are sized by height. In this range, Blitz's 7oz student gi is polyester-cotton and comes with a white belt. Its 12oz Zanshin and 14oz Diamond are cotton and sold without one.

Makers name the cut. Blitz calls the Zanshin a European cut, with full-length sleeves and trousers. It calls the Diamond a Japanese cut with shorter sleeves and trouser legs, tailored for kata. adidas calls its K220KF a kumite cut.

Under WKF rules, athletes in kumite and kata wear a white, WKF Approved karategi. Its jacket must have ties, and its sleeves and trousers must fall within set lengths (WKF Kumite Competition Rules 2026, Art. 2.2.1; WKF Kata Competition Rules 2026, Art. 2.2.1).

WKF's approved list names brands for kumite and kata gis, and names models for only some brands. For adidas, the one brand in this range on the list, it names the brand, not the model. So each gi here records what that list shows for its brand. We never describe a gi as WKF approved ourselves. Other event organisers can set different rules, so check the rules of any event you enter.
