Our verdict

A first karate gi from Blitz's own UK store. The 7oz polyester-cotton wrap-over gi has an elastic and tie waistband, comes with a white belt and is sold in five colour options.

Blitz calls the Student gi an ideal first gi for students. It is a 7oz, 65% polyester / 35% cotton wrap-over gi with an elastic and tie waistband, and Blitz says it has extra room through the gusset for kicks, stances and transitions.

It comes with a white belt, in white, black, blue, red and mixed colour combinations. Sizing is by height, from 3/160cm to 8/210cm, although Blitz's height chart stops at 7/200cm.

Blitz describes it as suitable for regular training, gradings and competition. However, Blitz is not on WKF's approved list for karategi (karate gis). Under WKF rules, athletes wear a white, WKF Approved karategi (WKF Kumite Competition Rules 2026, Art. 2.2.1), so we present it here as a training gi. Blitz does not say whether the jacket has ties, which WKF requires in competition, and it does not name the fabric weave.

Best suited to

Beginners buying a first gi for classes who want a belt included, once they have checked what their club asks for.

Consider skipping if

You're entering events run under WKF rules: see the adidas K220KF, from a brand WKF lists for kumite karategi. You want a heavier cotton gi for regular training: see the Blitz Zanshin.

Pros

  • The lowest-priced gi in this category, with a white belt included
  • Weight, composition, waistband and height sizing all published by Blitz
  • Five colour options, from 3/160cm to 8/210cm

Cons

  • Blitz is not on WKF's approved list for karategi
  • Blitz does not state the jacket ties or the fabric weave
  • The 8/210cm size is not on Blitz's height chart

Why we rated it this way

Rated on the clothing criteria (Construction / Materials, Fit & Movement, Durability, Value); a gi gets no Protection score.

Construction / Materials (3): the weight (7oz) and composition are published, but no weave or jacket-tie detail.

Fit & Movement (3): Blitz describes extra gusset room and an elastic and tie waistband and publishes a height chart, but sells whole sizes only and its chart leaves out 8/210cm.

Durability (3): the lightest stated fabric weight in this category and no independent durability evidence; it is not marked down on weight alone.

Value (4): the lowest price here, with a belt included and its specification published by the maker - rated on that basis, not on any performance claim.
