A pre-shaped shield on a neoprene back with a hook-and-loop strap, covering the shin and instep. Hayabusa's own guidance describes MMA-style guards as lighter than Muay Thai-style ones. This guard suits light-contact and kick-light training. WAKO's competition guards for those disciplines are shin-only, worn with foot guards (WAKO Rules 2022, Art. 2.3.1.9). Its maker makes no WAKO approval or label claim, and WAKO events require WAKO-labelled shin guards. So it is for training and sparring, not WAKO bouts.
Our verdict
An MMA-specific hybrid shin guard: a pre-shaped EVA foam shield on a flexible neoprene back, with a hook-and-loop strap. It sits between a light sleeve and a bulky Muay Thai guard, and is meant for everyday MMA sparring.
Fumetsu says the Ghost S3 MMA is designed specifically for MMA sparring. Fumetsu lists a synthetic leather front, pre-shaped EVA foam that moulds around the shin, a flexible neoprene back and an adjustable hook-and-loop strap. The guard covers the shin and instep, and is sold in three size bands (XS, S/M and L/XL).
Regular MMA sparring, for beginner and intermediate trainees who want more structure than a sleeve without the bulk of a Muay Thai guard.
You want a strap-free guard (see the Hayabusa Core Sleeved). You are between sizes and need finer sizing than three bands. You are a kick-heavy striker who wants maximum coverage.
Pros
- Designed specifically for MMA sparring, per Fumetsu - a genuine middle ground between sleeve and strap-on designs
- Confirmed pre-shaped EVA padding on a neoprene back
- Sold directly by Fumetsu's own UK store in GBP
Cons
- Only three size bands, so the fit is less precise
- Uses a hook-and-loop strap, unlike a strap-free sleeve
- Sizing guidance is not published in text
Why we rated it this way
Protection (3): confirmed pre-shaped EVA foam over the shin and instep - more structure than a sleeve, less coverage than a Muay Thai strap guard.
Comfort (3): the neoprene back and strap are confirmed, but three broad size bands limit fit precision.
Durability (3): no independent durability evidence.
Value (3): a fair mid-range price for an MMA-specific design.

- Manufacturer — Hayabusa's own guidance on the trade-off: Muay Thai shin guards have thicker padding but may feel less comfortable during grappling; MMA shin guards are typically lighter and more flexible.
